NYC

So, I had to go to NYC today for my MOTEC meetings....Since I am a true Jersey surbubanite at heart, most days I really HATE the city - it smells, it's dirty as HELL , there are too many people , and I ALWAYS miss my train in and out (today i actaully got the train in but sat on the traacks for 15 minutes and then i missed my train home by like 1 minutes---grrr).
However, despite my transportation woes of the day, I did not find myself hating the city today--very peculiar. Some random very large, somewhat scary-looking African American guy stuck his hand out and held up the entire, very crowded A train for me (which was great because i was late) and then gave me a polite "your welcome" and did NOT proceed to either a) stare at me inappropriatly or b) talk to me...hmm!!!! And today, I realized one of the greatest pleasures of NYC----People watching!!!!
Where have I been?! This is one of Marco and his sister Merry's favorite past times and I am starting to kind of get into it. Today it hit me that NYC is a haven for observation of every kind of homo sapiens that walks this earth. I also realized that you can wear ANYTHING in the city and no one really gives a crap...I could have walked around on the subway in my underwear (scary, i know - i dont even want to think about it myself!) and everyone would keep on going, listening to their ipods and heading to whereever people in Manhattan go...
Let me also tell you that there are WAY TOO MANY people wearing skinny jeans (and whoever brought those back into style should be SHOT - unless you are a size two or four, they DONT LOOK NICE) who should not be...and I am sorry, men should NOT wear skinny jeans, especially those cut to accentuate the groin area. Who the hell wants to look at punky, "trendy" guy's junk? And to make matters worst, most of these guys in "skinny" jeans were wearing the jean in ugly colors such as washed out black and stone washed!! AGG!!! The 80's is a decade that should NOT be brought back! What's next? Chartruese scrunchies and fanny packs? AHHHH!
So on to my next topic, and this is open for comment discussion. For the past few months, I have been wanting to do something very wierd - I want ot put a pink stripe in my hair....I have NO IDEA why - I just think it looks bad ass. Now, I know I am NOT "bad ass" ( there isa big difference between being "bad ass" and an "asshole") but for some reason I think this is so cool!!!!! I am thinking that I am regressing back to adolescence...I did not go through the "I am going to dye my hair ugly colors i.e. blue, pink, purple with KoolAid" phase that most of my peers went through at age 11-13, which also coincided with the "grunge" phase of the 1990's...The "grungiest" I ever got was wearing my flannel from Abercrombie and Fitch to school...it wasnt my thing.
One of my favorite authors, Meg Cabot, has a pink streak and it looks awesome (her blog is hilarious, btw). Now, I thought I was insane, until my fairly sane-minded SIL stated she was also contemplating it! How would I even go about this? Would I look stupid at work? (ok, maybe not considering my place of employment) Hmmm......I dont know...maybe its just a phase of me trying to be bad ass, when i know that Im really not....
